The 8th National Nutrition Survey conducted in June to December 2013 by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute reported that among the 0-5 years old in Zamboanga Peninsula, 2 out of 10 children of 24% were underweight, 4 out of 10 children or 38.7% were stunted and 1 out of 10 children or 8.0% was wasted (FNRI-NNS, 2008). The problem of undernutrition still continues to exist yet it is preventable and treatable when given direct and appropriate interventions. Child undernutrition is associated with undesirable health, inadequate food intake and poor caring practices. In order to help address the problem of underweight among the 0-71 months old and to make nutrition services available particularly to the Subanen, it was deemed essential to have a project that will deliver a nutrition intervention package to the Subanen paticularly in Barangay Domogok, Siayan, Zamboanga del Norte. The project was piloted in one the barangays of Siayan, Zamboanga del Norte where majority of its population are Subanen. The project aims to help decrease the number of underweight among the 0-71 months old Subanen children through initiatives proposed by the scholar. The Re-Entry Project entitled "Nutrition Intervention Package for the Subanen in Barangay Domogok, Siayan, Zamboanga del Norte" is one of the key initiative to address inadeuqate food intake through food production and supplementary feeding. The the Subanen families would have increased income through a livelihood/ income generating project and that Subanen leaders and volunteers are capacitated on infant and young child feeding counselling and community involvement are objectives that the project also aimed for. With the social acceptability and support of the Local Chief Executive the project was implemented and it benefitted the Subanen of Barangay Domogok, Siayan, Zamboanga del Norte and will be expanded to other barangays with Subanen population.
