TI - The effects of community health team (CHT) mobilization on the facility-based delivery (FBD) and skilled birth attendants (SBA) in Barangay Marangas, Bataraza, Palawan KW - Public welfare KW - Healthservices KW - Public health N1 - Graduate School of Public and Development Management N2 - The measure of the functionality and relevance of a health program is very important in the delivery of health services and the attainment of goals and objectives. Barangay Marangas, where the project Community Health Team (CHT) was implemented in the 4th quarter of 2012, is within the poblacion thereby making it an ideal focus since the health facility is within proximity making it accessible for the residents. The problem is despite its proximity there is still low percentage of Facility-based delivery (FBD) and low deliveries attended by Skilled-birth Attendants (SBA). This paper aimed to determine the prevalence of FBD in Brgy. Marangas before and after CHT; to determine the prevalence of SBA utilization in Brgy. Marangas before and after CHT; to illustrate the role of CHT on FBD and SBA utilization; and to determine if the effects of CHT mobilization is significant in increasing FBD and SBA utilization in Barangay Marangas. This study of the effect of CHT to FBD and SBA utilization is a qualitative and quantitative inferential study. It has utilized two research designs - descriptive and causal/explanatory types of research designs. Comparing the two periods which are before and after program implementation, there is an increase of 16.89% (38.17% - 21.28%) in the deliveries at hospital/RHU that was noticeable. Moreover, 21.44% (81.72% - 60.28%) increase in the SBA assisted delivery was also noted. There was also noted decreased in number of TBA attended deliveries from 39 deliveries attended before program implementation to 14 deliveries attended after the program implementation. Noticeable increase and differences in the variables although found insignificant by the statistical tools are still glaring to be ignored. This leads us to accept some hypotheses that there are increases in the number of FBD by 16.89% and also a 21.44% increase in the utilization of SBA by the women of the barangay. On the other hand, the hypothesis that after the CHT mobilization there will be significant difference in FBD and SBA utilization in Brgy. Marangas has been rejected as a result of the statistical tool applied for the meantime. A longer period of assessment and the effects of CHT to SBA and FBD will be undoubtedly established. Furthermore, this study found out that proximity to the facility is not a compelling factor to FBD. We should not however discount the other key enabling factors behind women's decision such as perceived low quality care in the facility, opportunity cost, and cultural for they may be the stronger reason that proximity to the facility ER -
