Since 1984 to present, the total number of recorded people living with HIV in the Philippines accounted for only 6% of the Filipinos at-risk of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Owing to the biologic and behavioral associations with HIV, sexually transmissible infections (STI) have been an essential component of HIV prevention and control programs in the country. Despite the numerous efforts of the national and regional agencies against STIs, the number of cases in the municipality of Basco has been increasing for the pat four years. This study aims to improve the prevention and control program for STIs in the municipality of Basco. The study utilized a descriptive analysis of the current status of the STI program, including the gaps in the implementation and the measures to address these gaps, on the basis of the health building blocks. The data regarding STIs were collected through records review, interview and group discussion of several health workers and other experts in the field of STIs. The study showed that reversing the trend of increasing STI incidence in the municipality of Basco is possible by means of effective implementation of an improved STI prevention and control program particularly in terms of integrated STI clinic, services, local government support, intra- and interagency collaborative efforts, and doing community outreach projects.
