520 _aAmong non-communicable diseases, hypertension ranks as one of the top leading causes of morbidity and top underlying cause of mortality around the world, in the Philippines, in ARMM and specifically in Pualas, Lanao del Sur. Protocols in the management and control of this disease have already been established but in the context of a low-resource setting, key interventions and strategies must be identified to effectively combat this public health concern. This project aimed to develop a system-based approach by utilizing the Primary Care Benefit Package of Services and PhilPEN strategies to improve hypertension outcomes of increasing case detection, utilization rate of antihypertensive medications under the ComPack Program and treatment compliance. Document review, individual profiling, risk factor assessment and data analysis were used to plot the burden of hypertension in the area, to identify common risk factors, to plot case detection rate and utilization rate of medications upon the advent of the aforementioned mechanisms. Results showed that regular blood pressure monitoring, establishment of a hypertension registry, masterlisting, and counseling for lifestyle modification specifically on dietary changes are the interventions needed to be localized. This project also established a hypertension registry which enrolled all diagnosed hypertensive patients along with a blood pressure and treatment compliance monitoring scheme. Overall, the project concluded that a systems-based ,management approach by employment of the mechanisms from the PCB Package and PhilPEN strategies has a positive impact on hypertension outcomes by increasing awareness, case detection of hypertension and utilization rate of antihypertensive medications leading to improved treatment compliance.
