520 _aHypertension is a major public health problem in the Philippines. Its prevalence is steadily increasing worldwide and in the community. Interventions on the patient, the provider and the health delivery system are needed to improve hypertension control. In New Washington, Aklan hypertension remains to be one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality every year. Furthermore, there is an increasing trend in the number of patients with hypertension per year. the prevalence of hypertension morbidity from 2014 to 2016 almost doubled. And there are no existing programs that actively control hypertension in the municipality. Thus, it is believed that many are still undiagnosed, untreated and for some uncontrolled. This Action Plan and Project aimed to look into the effect of community organizing and health promotion as a strategy to improve hypertension program in the Municipality of New Washington, Aklan. Stakeholders were subjects of the focus group discussion using the Health Belief Model to strengthen the hypertension program. The health belief model as an approach aims to identify the gaps and needs, and the possible strategies, through targeting the attitude and beliefs or perception of the respondents. Therefore, community organizing and health promotion strategy were deemed as the best strategies. After the intervention it showed increase in the prevalence of hypertension which implies a better health seeking behavior for the community, and generally an improvement in the hypertension-related knowledge, attitude and practices.
