520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. The Office of the Solicitor General in the law firm of the Republic of the Philippines. It is tasked to represent the people of the Philippines, the Philippine government, its agencies and instrumentalities, and officials and agents in any litigation or matter requiring the services of a lawyer. It is the biggest law firm in the land having 261 lawyers who handle around 611,302 cases. Despite the complexity of case the OSG handles on behalf of the Republic of the Philippines and its people in all legal proceedings and matters requiring the services of a lawyer, there is no legal professional development program for the solicitors. If this not be properly addressed, the OSG's efficiency in rendering legal services will be hampered to the detriment of the Republic of the Philippines. The solutions to this problem are (1) allowing the solicitors to get training on their own, (2) outsourcing their training, or (3) empowering the OSG training committee to devise the training for the solicitors. Among the three, the third alternative is recommended because the Committee knows the exact training needs of the solicitors and can design the training for them. The Committee can also network with local and foreign agencies and foundations to obtain scholarships for the solicitors.
