520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Stewardship and good governance is thought to be the key determinant in attaining development in health systems. Framework and assessment tools from different worldwide organizations such as World Health Organization's (WHO) domains of stewardship; Pan American Health Organization's (PAHO) Ten Essential Public Health Functions; World Bank's six basic aspects of governance; and United Nations Development Program (UNDP)'s Principles of good governance, has been used in assessing stewardship. In the study, the Pan American Health Organization's (PAHO) Essential Public Health Functions (EPHF) is adapted in the local setting to assess the performance of stewardship roles. The performance of the participants (EPHF 3 to 10) was of significant activity. Optimal activity was observed in assessment, monitoring, diagnosis and investigation of maternal health status (EPHF 1 and 2). The improved performance of the health departments is the main aim of this study. The results help raise the level of awareness among policymakers of the importance of maternal health focusing on facility-based delivery. The road to good governance and stewardship in health is still a long way process and the awareness of this is only the first step. The rest of the challenge is to carry out its implementation and sustainability. |
