520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | The burden of malnutrition has been a continued battle, especially in the Philippines, over a long period of time. Women and children are the vulnerable groups concerned, but infants and young children are at more risk of undernutrition due to their high nutritional requirements for growth and development. Different programs have been implemented to reduce prevalence of undernutrition in the municipality and there is already a noticeable decrease in prevalence rate over the last five years. However, there is still a significant number of infants and children identified as underweight, thus putting them at risk of dying. In this light that the author implemented a community based approach to tackle undernutrition, the CoSuG Malangabang Project. Through a process of turning the behavioral control knob, the author marketed the ideas and practice to mothers to effect behavioral change towards proper child care. The author then influence mothers, through the process of bridging leadership, to own the problem. Vo-ownership was also established among Barangay LGU, a community support group was formed. This expanded IYCF and MNCHN community support group (CISuG Malangabang) execute and monitor different IYCF and MNCH programs towards improvement of undernutrition in Barngay Malangabang, Concepcion. |
