520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Hypertension is still one of the leading morbidity and mortality in the Philippines. To address the disease, the Department of Health implemented several programs including the Philippine Package of Essential Non-communicable (PEN) disease interventions and the Complete Treatment Pack Program (ComPack). However, it is still prevalent in the municipality of Bacolod - Kalawi, Lanao del Sur due to sustainability problems. Based on municipal reports, hypertension is the 2nd leading cause of morbidity after URTI and its complications were 1st in mortality. Due to low budget allocation, inactive health workers, irregular supply of medications and poor knowledge on the illness, hypertension management at the barangay level is suboptimal. Thus key strategies were identified to improve hypertension prevention and control in the area. A community-based hypertension control program was established and implemented through partnerships involving the local government unit and community volunteers. The following were the activities conducted under these project LGU engagement for financial and logistics support, capability building activities for the health workers and hypertensive patients, provision of blood pressure apparatus and BP monitoring notebooks and organization of the barangay health workers. Due to peace and order problems, the study was not able to measure the effectivity of the said interventions.
