520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Maternal Mortality Rate in the Philippines had a little change from 1990 2013, with only an annual change of 0.9%. in 2013, WHO still records 120 deaths per 100,000 live births in the country, which is not far from 130 in year 2005 and 120 in 2000 WHO factsheet, 2013. The high MMR reflects the fact thet 41% of women in the Philippines still deliver at home Philippines NDHS, 2013. To reduce maternal deaths, the most efficient strategy for lower income countries is to promote childbirth ate health facilities with a referral capacity Danforth et al., 2009 Koblinsky et al., 2006 WHO, 2005. This is a descriptive, qualitative study generally aimed to improve facility based delivery (FBD) rate of Sibutu, Tawi tawi. Specifically, it examined the different factors affecting the facility based delivery rate, identified strategy strategies that can be done to improve the facility based delivery rate and determined the measures to sustain the identified strategies. Findings show that most women would like to give birth in facilities but there are many hindrances to this high cost of services distance and transportation, quality of services, and poor ancillary services. Addressing these problems are not easy because of the limitations brought by non devolved set up in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, where the study locale is situated. While support from the DOH ARMM is often limited, the various resources in the non health sector in the municipality remain unused to its full advantage. Forging partnerships between the health sector and the nonhealth sector the LGU, NHOs, private individuals and the community will create a venue where the resources can be used to their potential. Creation of multisectoral partnerships between the above participants paved the way into better improved Leadership and Governance with creation of the Local Health Boards that actively seeks the welfare of public health health services delivery through additional functional health facilities, intensified educational campaigns, empowered community members improved health financing through PhilHealth Accreditation of facilities. |
