| Summary, etc. | The Tuberculosis Case Detection Rate (TB CDR) of the municipality of Poona Piagapo in 2015 was 23.52% which is below the national target of 90%. This Action Plan and Project (APP) aimed to improve TB CDR 1.) by determining the factors that contributed to low TB CDR 2.) by formulating strategies to improve TB CDR and 3.) by formulating strategies on how to sustain the program. The World Health Organizations (WHO) health Systems Framework was utilized in the formulation of strategies which will lead to increase in TB CDR then to achieving improve TB health outcomes. The factors that contributed to low TB CDR were obtained through 1.) direct observation of current status of national Tuberculosis Program (NTP) implementation in the municipality 1.) concluded survey among Rural Health Unit (RHU) staff Barangay Health Workers (BHW) 3.) NTP date review from 2011 to 2015 and 4.) review of previous study done by Dr. Pangcatan in 2013. One of the factors identified was the distance of patients residences to the RHU, thus the Tara na sa Barangay (TB) Program was created by reaching out to randomly selected barangays in the municipality, conducting medical consultation, identifying presumptive TB patients, and referring them, to the medical technologist for sputum collection. Of the 26 barangays in the municipality, six where reached out, 19 patients were identified and collected with sputum of which only one had positive result. Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) were also utilized in the implementation of the activity, since they are known as the frontliners for delivering health services in the community, their knowledge on TB was gauged by giving pre and post test after the lecture was given. The TB CDR in 2016 was 30.58%, however, this noted increase is not solely attributed through the reaching out to barangays activity but is a contributory factor. Majority if the diagnosed TB cases still came directly at the RHU for medical consult, while some were referred by the BHWs. |
