Among others, the project initiated positive changes in the application, inspection, and issuance of the Ship Sanitation Certificate (SSC). The latter is an important document required by the International Health Regulations (IHR) of 2004. Improvements in the Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ) can be observed during the three-month implementation phase of the S.H.I.P. Initiative; particularly in the processing of SSC. This was achieved without imposing additional burden on the part of clients or shipowners were catalyzed by the implementation of the S.H.I.P. Initiative. Furthermore, the project led to the collaboration with the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), authorship of a unified agreement, creation of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials for the benefit of the sea travelers, training of all the nine (9) SSC issuing ports, and finally the conceptualization of an award system. The purpose of the award system which will be launched in the future is to promote compliance by giving recognition to ships that are adherent to sanitation policies. Domestics ships were likewise given a one-year adjustment period to comply with the policy. During this time, the Bureau is expected to monitor policy implementation, strengthen networks with MARINA and PCG, finalize the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), and create a sanitation training program for seafarers who are lacking formal education.Item type | Current library | Call number | Status | Barcode | |
