Summary: Morbidity issues such as diarrhea, history of cholera and preventable accident wounds point to issues of improper solid waste management. The 6th class island municipality of Conception, Romblon was assessed for compliance to RA9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 in terms of organization, segregation, collection, storage, and disposal at three levels: household, barangay and municipality. Factors affecting compliance were also identified and analyzed. This study also aimed to determine the significance of solid waste management to the public health sector. Documents review, ocular inspection, surveys and focused group discussion were used as tools to gather data. Results of the survey showed that the municipality is moderately-compliant to RA9003 at the household and barangay level. At the municipal level, the Municipal Solid Waste Management Board gauges its compliance at fairly-compliant. Factors significant at the household level are political and health-related. At the level of the barangay, significant factors are economic and health-related. At the level of the municipality, the factors considered very significant include technical and financial. All respondents agree that proper solid waste management in essential in the promotion of health and well-being of the community and in the prevention of the spread of diseases.
