Summary: In Guindulungan, the number of births attended by skilled health workers remains low at just 25%. Using qualitative descriptive method, a study was conducted to assess factors that contribute to the low skilled birth attendance in the municipality of Guindulungan. The purpose of this study is to determine the preference of women in the municipality of Guindulungan when it comes to place of delivery and attendant at birth, to identify factors that contribute to low skilled birth attendance and to recommend solutions that can be done to ensure that all pregnant women in Guindulungan are assisted by skilled health workers. The study revealed that majority of deliveries in past two years occurred at home and current pregnant women preferred home delivery with traditional birth attendants. It was also found out that factors contributing to low skilled birth attendance were financial constraint, cultural beliefs and practices, no plan at all, distance and lack of health facility. The non-residency of the midwives to their area of assignment, lack of Local Government Unit support, poor health seeking behavior and large family size were also contributory factors. It was also good to note that this particular study was able to come up with solutions such as the commitment to strong partnership among Rural Health Midwife, Barangay Health Workers and Traditional Birth Attendants, Continuous collaboration with Local Government Units with an aim to lobby for formulation of municipal ordinances that can increase skilled birth attendance.Item type | Current library | Call number | Status | Barcode | |
