Collaborative multistakeholders governance to address teenage pregnancy in Maramag, Bukidnon / Zichiri Karen O. Perocho.

Summary: Filipino adolescents are currently confronting problems about their sexuality, sexual behavior and reproductive health. This was documented by Philippine Statistical Authority 2014 data revealing that every hour, 24 babies are delivered by teenage mothers. Around 14 percent of Filipino girls aged 15 to 19 years old are either pregnant for the first time or are already mothers as publicized by Young Adult Fertility and Sexuality 2014 Study doubling the likelihood of maternal death compared to those over 20 years. Sixteen percent of abortion attempts occur among teenagers (Singh, 2006). Teenage pregnancies have been increasing in the Municipality of Maramag, Bukidnon. Pregnancy Tracking in 2013 revealed that pregnant teenagers constitute 13% (380 out of 2,864 total pregnancies) and in 2014, this has further increased to 19% (513 teenage pregnancies out of 2,676 total pregnancies). Hence, this study was pushed to initiate strategies to address this trend. In order to gain a clear grasp why this teenage moms end up having unplanned pregnancy, the researcher conducted a survey entitled The emerging issues common among pregnant teenagers in Maramag, Bukidnon. The results of the survey served as a basis for the strategies employed and still to be implemented in addressing the increasing teenage pregnancy trend. The researcher acknowledged the vital role of the stakeholders in the realization of the desired outcome. Using the Strategic Framework on Adolescent Health and Youth Development stipulated in Administrative Order No. 2013 0013 as a template. The author applied those strategies in the locality, to wit, Partnership Building, Capability Building, Policy Support, Establishment of Adolescent Friendly Facilities and Information Management and was proven effective in strengthening the Adolescent Health and Youth Development Program which paved the way of the involvement of every sector of the society in being one in achieving the vision of Developing a breed Maramagnos who are empowered, well informed, responsible and healthy, equipped to become upcoming leaser of the society. The establishment of adolescent friendy facility in the strategic place of the Municipality named as Tambayan ng mga kabataan sa Maramag and Adolescent and Youth Desk in the secondary and tertiary educational Institutions and Barangay Health Stations will ensure that quality and comprehensive health care services will be given to the adolescents, the people wo are in the critical stage of their lives, thus, a good start for addressing unplanned teenage pregnancies.
