Description: xiii, 70 leaves : illustrations (some color)Subject(s): Dissertation note: Graduate School of Public and Development Management. Health Systems and Development. Batch 5 Thesis (MPM-HSD)--Development Academy of the Philippines. Summary: Getafe is a 3rd class municipality in Bohol with a 9 island barangays, 6 of which are considered as Geographically Isolated and disadvantaged Areas. Maternal mortality has long been a problem in the municipality. Facility-based delivery in the municipality remains below the national average. The goal of this action plan and project is to increase the percentage of facility-based delivery to 90% from the current baseline ate the end of two years with special focus on overcoming the barriers to facility-based in the municipality. This study specifically aimed to describe the current state of maternal health in the municipality. Another objective was to investigate gaps, needs, and issues contributing to the low-percentage of facility-based delivery in the municipality. Next was to identify stakeholders in addressing low percentage of facility-based delivery and lastly, to recommend options on how to overcome barriers to the implementation of facility-based delivery in the municipality. Baseline data were obtained through validation of existing reports. Key informant interviews were done using a checklist adapted from the Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health Manual of Procedures. A stakeholders mapping and analysis was likewise performed. Data shows that Getafe has low percentage of facility-based delivery and that 71.3% of home deliveries occur in island barangays. A local policy at the barangay level has been passed fro the implementation of facility-based delivery in 2010, however, this made a little impact in addressing the problem. Moreover, barriers to facility-based delivery like lack of human resource, financial constraints, and cultural norms were addressed. These interventions resulted to an increase in the percentage of facility-based from 68.70% in 2013 to 85% in 2014. Recommendations on improvement of supply-side and demand-side interventions were formulated. These included a proposal for the construction of satellite birthing facilities in 2 of the island barangays, proposal for a creation of a transport mechanism per island barangay for easy transport and early referral of pregnant clients, and the strengthening of community support for pregnant women.Item type | Current library | Call number | Status | Barcode | |
