Summary: Unplanned pregnancies, especially from pregnant women with comorbidities or identified as high risk, may result to abortions or complicated cases. These could lead to maternal, fetal risks and even death. Responsible parenthood can help individuals and couples in achieving their desired family size and decreasing the possibilities complicated pregnancies, thus improving reproductive health. Supply of services, enabling government and demand generation are the essential elements of the effective implementation of family planning program in the community. These areas were assessed to identify strategies which would help improve the service delivery through community based family planning program. Individuals and couples of poor families were mapped out and identified their baseline knowledge, attitude and practices on family planning. Women of the reproductive age among 4Ps families knew the concept of FP and were aware of at least one method of contraception and showed positive attitude on family planning. The health staff has high level of knowledge, positive attitude on service delivery, especially on counselling and their practice on service provision has identified gaps and possible barriers. Application of the activities of community based FP program brought about a decrease in the unmet needs on modern FB, and high CPR. The existing national policies mandated the strict implementation of the reproductive health and responsible parenthood, but local policies should be created in accordance to the clients desire on family planning and communitys capability to apply the program.
