Batch 5 Thesis (MPM-HSD)--Development Academy of the Philippines. Summary: Tugaya is a 5th class municipality at the province of Lanao del Sur with an increasing trend of sanitation-related morbidities such as skin diseases and acute gastroenteritis has been among the top leading mortalities for the succeeding five years. The number of households with access to sanitary toilet facility in this barangay is 85 percent. The main goal of this study is to decrease the incidence of skin diseases and acute gastroenteritis by 90 percent and zero mortality caused by severe dehydration from the baseline data by the end of 2016. The study aims to achieve zero open defecation status through adopting the Community-Led Total Sanitation Program. This program specifically aims to know the current sanitation status of the community, the gaps in the current sanitation and practices, and to determine how the CLTs program be sustained in the community. The study shows that the community has poor sanitation status. Open defecation is practiced by majority of the population, mostly at or near the lake, where the sewage water from the neighboring houses drain due to the slopping terrain of the area and the absence of wastewater connectivity in the entire municipality. More than half of the households in the community bathe and wash clothes and linen in the lake, causing direct contact and contamination with the polluted water. The unavailability of fund for toilet construction is the most prevalent reason for not having a toilet facility. The Participative Rural Appraisal (PRA) method is used in conducting the CLTS program. the Barangay Buadidico Sanitation and cleanliness (BBSC) Committee supervises, coordinates and evaluates the implementation of the action plan and sanitation program. Zero open defecation status monitoring and follow up, and post-study survey on the sanitation status of the community and the incidence of of skin diseases and acute gastroenteritis should be done.Item type | Current library | Call number | Status | Barcode | |
