Summary: This Re-entry Project (ReP) developed the Commission on Human Rights' (CHR's) Action Plan on Business and Human Rights to guide the Commission's performance in delivering services particular on business and on human rights. This was undertaken to ensure institutional reforms and enhance CHR's role in addressing related issues and concerns by mainstreaming the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGP on BHR) in its systems and processes. The ReP was implemented through the collaborative efforts of the proponent and the members of the project team through participation in meetings with members of CHR Technical Working Group on Business and Human Rights, exchange of information and best practices on business and human rights with some members of the South East Asia NHRI Forum and Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission, and consultation with CHR consultant on business and human rights. The main activity undertaken included the conduct of a writeshop cum planning with members and representative's of the CHR's Technical Working Group on Business and Human Rights which enabled the ReP proponent and the project team to develop the action plan and the internal policy. Through this ReP, the CHR's performance was assessed to continuously improve its de;livery of human rights services particularly on business and human rights. It was deemed necessary to institute reforms and innovations by adopting the identified action points in the plan. CHR needs to be conscious of its role as national human rights institution in harmonizing business operations and human rights standards by mainstreaming the UNGP on BHR in its systems and processes, and popularizing the same principles to government agencies and business enterprise for their appreciation and adoption. With globalization as the recent trend in economics and politics (Bishop, Reinke, and Adams, 2011) the CHR needs to equip itself in addressing the impacts of economic growth and development on human rights. To sustain the main objective of this ReP, CHR needs to capacitate itself on business and human rights and be able to contribute to the unending efforts of the Commission in achieving its goal to become a "prime mover in strengthening respect, understanding and practice of human rights as the essential cornerstone of peace, unity and nation-building."
