Summary: This Maternal Health Action Plan and Project (APP) =for the municipality of Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro aims to enable the municipality to increase the facility based deliveries by the year 2015. To effectively achieve this goal, this APP proposes that Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) locally known as Hilots in the municipality be recognized as partners in maternal health promotion. The implementation of this APP with harness the participation of hilots in promoting facility based deliveries in the municipality. Increasing peoples awareness on the maternal health services available in the health facilities of Bongabong through the hilots would translate to an increase in the ratio of birth attendant by skilled birth attendants, thereby preventing maternal and neonatal deaths, and reducing the incidence of maternal and infant morbidity.
