Summary: The pursuit for nutrition involves a multi stakeholder process that aims to provide food and nutrition security to the population at all times. Delivery of nutrition services is devolved to the local government, and attainment of national goals greatly depend on the performance of individual LGUs. Situational analysis of the nutrition program of the island municipality of Sarangani, Davao Occidental, suggested that there were problems in the management of the nutrition program. The objective of the study was to assess performance of the nutrition program in recent tears and determine what gaps are present in the implementation of the nutrition program. Document analyses, focus group discussions, field observations, and interview with key informants were conducted in the course of the study. Results of the document analysis revealed a consistently high prevalence of undernourishment in the municipality, with the high burden of stunting as the nutritional issue of great concern. Coverage of OPT was shown to be steadily decreasing and the municipality has consistently been lowest in terms of coverage in comparison to with other municipalities. Field observations and FGDs with nutrition and health workers revealed the poor state of equipment status, and low competency especially among barangay level personnel. Poor management of the nutrition program and gaps in governance were found to be the major factors in the poor implementation of nutrition related activities. Interventions were proposed and implemented and the major intervention was to organize and activate the committees relevant to the management of the program. Projects to increase the capability to deliver services was also done such as equipment upgrading and training. To sustain momentum for nutrition action, programs were initiated in the barangays for implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
